A SMART World After All - Downloads (0)
If you're a MacTech subscriber, and have come here to download the raidalert.sh and smartalert.sh scripts or the package installer for the SMARTmontools that were mentioned in my article "A SMART World After All," then you already know quite a bit about SMART monitoring and early warning. Other resources you might want to consider consulting are:
The SMARTmontools Project Page
The Maxwell SMART Project Page
Original S.M.A.R.T Historical Docs
Here are the links to the scripts from the "SMART World" Column. Please note that you download and install these at your own risk, and that Dean Shavit, themachelpdesk.com, MOST Training & Consulting and MacTech magazine and/or the Xplain Corporation make no guarantees about how these tools will operate on your computer. As always, backup important data before testing any software!
Disk Alert Scripts
Smartmontools for OS X Installer
Note: the Smartmontools installer has been tested and does work on OS X 10.4 and 10.4 Server as well as 10.3 and 10.3 Server. However, the upgrade install (not clean install) to OS X 10.4 does overwrite /etc/syslogd.conf, requiring that you redit the file to send the local3 facility output to the smartd logfile. If you're a MacTech subscriber, you'll have the instructions at your fingertips. If not, you can easily find directions on monkeying with syslog in multiple places by using your favorite search engine.
